A decade and a half since defining that era’s post grunge pop rock experience with “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You” and the Top Ten Billboard pop hits “Till I Hear It From You” and “Follow You Down”—and four years since the release of a Major Lodge Victory—an album Billboard called “an effortless triumph of melodic perfection”—Gin Blossoms are at the top of their seamless harmonic songwriting game with No Chocolate Cake. Because the band members no longer live in the same city—Wilson divides his time between Tempe and New York, Valenzuela is in Los Angeles--putting the sonic pieces of No Chocolate Cake together presented an exciting new challenge for the Gin Blossoms. Gin Blossoms have always benefited from that innate sense of chemistry and inspiration.
From the band's birth in their hometown of Tempe, Arizona, their fanbase grew quickly as they earned a great reputation as a live act. Readers of the Phoenix New Times chose them as the city's best rock band, qualifying them to play at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in March, 1989. Later that year, CMJ dubbed them the “Best Unsigned Band in America” and invited them to play MTV's New Music Awards in New York City.
Major label interest quickly followed ...their initial releases on A&M Records included Up and Crumbling in 1991 and the multi-platinum selling New Miserable Experience in 1992 featuring the single, "Hey Jealousy" which peaked at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100. Four more singles followed ... "Mrs. Rita," "Found Out About You," "Allison Road" and "Until I Fall Away." With NME having sold nearly 3 million copies in the US alone, the Gin Blossoms became a band to be reckoned with.
ADAM EZRA GROUP
The Adam Ezra Group (AEG) is constantly proving that they are more than just a band, musically, personally, and socially. Selling records and tickets is important to AEG, but they are committed to changing the world with their songs and their actions along the way. Ezra has spent time living out of a van, farming in Canada, volunteering for the relief effort in Kosovo, and practicing environmental geography in South Africa. Whether as a kitchen hand or carpenter, teacher, athlete, or traveler, Ezra crams it all into the music, always challenging our perspective and often teetering somewhere between the ballsy rocker and sensitive poet. AEG currently dedicates around 25% of their touring to benefit events in communities across the country, and almost all of their tour dates incorporate some form of "giving back." Ezra has created his own non-profit organization called RallySound, which officially received 501c3 status in the fall of 2011. It's mission: to help create socially conscious, live music events that inspire communities, grassroots activism, and civic engagement.
"They are one of the few bands out right now whose music is deep and real. It was an honor to tour with them." -Michael Glabicki, Rusted Root
