Sat, February 25, 2012
SHOW STARTS 7:30pm
Presented by 104.9 THE HAWK
Legendary Southern Rockers....MOLLY HATCHET blazed the pathway beside the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker Band....they were founded in Jacksonville, FL in 1975 and would, after signing with Epic Records, chalk up a string of three consecutive Platinum albums: their self-titled debut, Flirtin’ with Disaster )the follow up that went Double Platinum), and Beatin’ The Odds. Today, Molly Hatchet is Bobby Ingram, Phil McCormack, John Galvin, Dave Hlubek, Tim Lindsey and Shawn Beamer.
Opening the night is CITIZENS BAND RADIO. They play music because it is part of them - down to, into the soil, imbedded in the land, and their blood. And their music is so pure that there isn’t a Texan, Kentuckian or Carolinian who can tell where they are from. Pedal steel, guitars, mandolin and drums, harnessed together to light up the night with powerful harmonies, homegrown tunes, and positivity. Touring up and down the east coast and beyond – and all the way to Texas - in a 1957 GMC Motor Coach, playing vintage instruments, enjoying each other’s company, making music together - because it feels good!

INTIMATE SHOW WITH AN AMERICAN ICON
Describe legendary musician Taj Mahal in a single word or phrase? Impossible.
You could call him a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, ethnomusicologist, two-time Grammy-winner, world-class musical collaborator, musicians’ advocate, world traveler, fisherman, or cigar aficionado. These titles are all accurate, yet none convey the warmth, humor, and soulfulness of Taj and his music. Taj has been playing his own distinctive brand of music — variously described as Afro-Caribbean blues, folk-world-blues, hula blues, folk-funk, and a host of other hyphenations — for more than 40 years. Caribbean, Hawaiian, African, Latin, and Cuban sounds and rhythms mix with folk, jazz, zydeco, gospel, rock, pop, soul, and R&B, all layered on top of a solid country blues foundation.
What ties it all together is Taj’s abiding interest in musical discovery, particularly in tracing many American musical forms back to their roots in Africa and Europe. Following his passion, Taj has spent time in the Caribbean, West Africa, Hawaii, Europe, the South Pacific, Australia, South America, and all over the continental U.S. His music reflects his global perspective, incorporating sounds from everywhere he’s lived and traveled. A self-taught musician, Taj plays more than 20 instruments, including the National Steel and Dobro guitars. His remarkable voice ranges from gruff and gravelly to smooth and sultry.
“The blues is a tone that puts me in contact with a lot of things, culturally, spiritually, cosmically. I really enjoy it, and I’m not going to let it go, because it’s that good.”
– Taj Mahal

SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY & THE POOR FOOLS
Presented by TFM and M.E. Productions:

For more than 35 years, Southside Johnny /aka John Lyon/, has delivered a soul-searing brand of raucous blues and R&B that has made he and his Juke’s a seminal force as All-American rock n’ roll song-slingers. Now, the affable new Jersey rock icon is setting his sights on a long-desired project that will deliver an intimate, acoustically-mined live stage throwdown billed as Southside Johnny and The Poor Fools.
Backed by Juke’s musicians John Conte/bass,Tommy Byrnes/guitar, longtime Juke’s collaborator Jeff Kazee/organ and percussion, and premier Springsteen violinist/fiddle player Soozie Tyrell, The Poor Fools’ project looms as a stripped-down ‘up-close-and-personal musical joyfest. Johnny is also quick to point out the ebullient singer will be sharing frontman duties as well – “getting everyone out of their comfort zone” - rotating singing, instrumentation, and percussion roles among fellow-Fools, and even strapping on a guitar himself, for the first time in decades.

LEO KOTTKE
Fri, June 1, 2012
SHOW STARTS 7:30pm
Presented by TFM & M.E. Productions
Tickets start at $35 / On Sale Soon!
Leo Kottke draws on not just folk, but also blues and jazz music in his original, finger-picking acoustic style on both six and twelve-string guitars. He entertains his audiences with his musical virtuoso and incredible humor.
Solo acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke is a walking contradiction. In conversation he is slow talking, thoughtful almost to distraction. Yet when he picks up a steel-stringed guitar, his fingers race across the strings with uncommon speed, developing a deep, churning groove that can at times sound like several people playing at once. He seems to play guitar at 78 rpm, yet he speaks at 33. Now 65 years young, Leo Kottke has recorded over 30 albums that showcase his barnstorming fretwork and quirky songwriting. He is truly a master of the guitar whose playing has influenced generations of musicians and listeners, and he still tours the country relentlessly, playing his 6 and 12-stringed guitars for appreciative audiences ranging from New England to Southern California, from Brisbane to Berlin.
Kottke has also built a jam-band type following having collaborated with Phish’s Mike Gordon for some albums & tours. His fan faves include “June Bug”, “Pamela Brown”, “Julie’s House”, “Pepe Hush” and “Jack Gets Up”.
After four decades of recording and touring, Kottke has earned a legendary status in the music world. Most anyone who has played an acoustic guitar has heard of him. He may never have a #1 hit on commercial radio, but millions of people world-wide have bought Kottke’s records and, as one critic remarked, “think he’s the cats pajamas.”

ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD featuring Cyril Neville, Devon Allman, & Mike Zito
Sat, June 23, 2012
SHOW STARTS 7:30pm
Presented by TFM & M.E. Productions:
Tickets start @ $25
If you like your blues rock with a funky New Orleans backbeat. This is the show for you. This band features the twin guitars of Devon Allman and Mike Zito with the funky groove of Cyril Neville and a red hot rhythm section. With a bloodline and music lineage that flows from Professor Long Hair to Muddy Waters, Mississippi Fred McDowell to Government Mule, Allman's southern JAM ROCK to the Neville Brother's SOUTHERN SOUL music, the ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD keeps a long musical tradition burning bright.
This lineup has talent to burn. You’ll already know Cyril Neville: poet, philosopher, percussion master and perhaps the South’s last great soul singer. At 63, this is the latest chapter in a career that began with 1970’s debut solo single, Gossip, and his touchdown in the lineup of older brother Art’s funk outfit, The Meters. Post-Meters, he’s been key to the rise of The Neville Brothers, created alchemy with Bob Dylan, Bono and Willie Nelson, toured with funk act Galactic, & led his solo band Tribe 13;
Likewise Devon Allman. As the son of Gregg Allman, he 36-year-old has rock ‘n’ roll in his DNA, but he’s always walked his own path. In 1999, he hit the radar as leader of Honeytribe, whose fearless albums announced him as a next-generation guitar hero, and when Devon takes the stage – either with Honeytribe or during cameos with his father and the Allmans – fans are wowed by a guitarist who can be smooth, savage or seismic, but it’s in R.S.B. that you’ll hear this modern master playing at full-throttle.
Not many guitarists could stand toe-to-toe with him. Step up Mike Zito: the blues ace whose ear for melody provides the counterpoint to his wingman’s rocking tendencies. Nominated in 2011 for the Blues Music Foundation’s ‘Best Blues Rock’ award, and winner of 2010’s Blues Music Award for ‘Song Of The Year’.
But like Cyril says, it’s all about making “a good gumbo”, and that’s where God’s own rhythm section comes in. Giving R.S.B. its hip-shaking groove are bassist Charlie Wooton and drummer Yonrico Scott: both heavyweight names in their own right.
They say that rock ‘n’ roll is dead, but they're wrong. There’s something in the air, Today, as Royal Southern Brotherhood propels their thrilling new brand of blues-rock and white-hot musicianship from the Southern States onto the world stage. The South is rising again. Come along for the ride.

HOT TUNA acoustic
Fri, July 6, 2012
SHOW STARTS 7:30pm
Presented by TFM & M.E. Productions:
Tickets start at $35 / On Sale Soon!
Rock N Roll Hall of Fame alumnus, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady have been performing together for the past 50 years. After creating the soundtrack of the ‘60s originating from Jefferson Airplane, the duo formed the iconic blues-roots band Hot Tuna.
In the mid 1960s, Jorma was asked to audition to play guitar for a new band that was forming in San Francisco. Though an acoustic player at heart, he grew interested in the electronic gadgetry that was beginning to make an appearance in the popular music scene -- particularly in a primitive processor brought to the audition by a fellow named Ken Kesey -- and decided to join that band; soon thereafter he summoned his young friend from Washington, who now played the bass.
Thus was created the unique (then and now) sound that was The Jefferson Airplane. Jorma even contributed the band's name, drawn from a nickname a friend had for the blues-playing Jorma. Jack's experience as a lead guitarist led to a style of bass playing which took the instrument far beyond its traditional role.
While in The Jefferson Airplane, putting together the soundtrack of the 60s, the pair remained loyal to the blues, jazz, bluegrass, and folk influences of the small clubs and larger venues they had learned from years before. While in San Francisco and even in hotel rooms on the road, they would play together and worked up a set of songs that they would often play at clubs in the Bay Area and while on the road, often after having played a set with the Airplane.
After two decades of acoustic and electric concerts and albums, the 1990s brought a new focus on acoustic music to Hot Tuna. More intimate venues with a more individual connection to the audience became increasingly frequent stops. Soon, the loud electric sound (and the semi trailer load of equipment) disappeared entirely from Hot Tuna tours.
